What to expect

Why a retreat?

Sometimes we just need to escape from our daily tasks and duties, lift ourselves out of habit to find rest, to renew, align and empower ourselves. And what’s better as to choose a place where we can honor nature and nature supports personal healing? And where we can feel free to breath and to move and to sing and just be?

This is what our mountain retreat is all about.

The Hotel Central La Fainera is located in the canton of Grisons, amidst the Biosfera Val Müstair nature reserve and very close by the Swiss National Park. The Hotel, a renovated building from the 16th century, invites you to arrive, relax and experience. The authentic mountain village Valchava is a perfect starting point for walks or hikes into the vibrant nature in early fall. The Hotel’s wellness area offers herbal / flower vitality baths, a bio sauna and a classic finnish sauna as well as different type of massages. The menus include regional delicacies and organic products with the best ingredients provided by local farmers. A beautiful yoga room on the top floor makes it complete!

Linda and I, we are both so looking forward to welcome you to this special event!

We will teach in English language; translation to German for clarification will of course be available, if necessary.

Linda Spackman

Senior Prajna Yoga Teacher, E-RYT 500

Linda Spackman began practicing yoga in 1984 and began teaching in 2000. Linda’s classes include asana, pranayama, Yoga Sutra and Vedic Chant. She teaches with Surya Little and Prajna Yoga, at the Vedic Chant Center and Yoga Source in Santa Fe, NM. In each class, Linda imparts her joy and underlying reverence for all aspects of yoga. Her teaching style is accessible yet challenging for all levels of practice, from beginner to lifelong practitioner.

Linda is a devoted student of Sonia Nelson, with whom she regularly studies the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Vedic Chant, Pranayama and Meditation. Sonia, a certified teacher trainer and yoga therapist, and a long time personal student of TKV Desikachar, is a rare teacher whose gift is imparting an understanding of both the tradition and depth of yoga, and how these teachings apply in everyday life.

Linda also treasures the opportunity to study asana with Patricia Walden, one of the most senior teachers of Iyengar yoga. Linda is continually inspired by Patricia’s dynamic teaching and the devotion and refined elegance of her practice. A longtime prenatal and postpartum teacher, she specializes in yoga for all phases of a woman’s life.

She conducts the Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Intensive, and co-teaches with Surya Little, the Yoga and Women’s Health Program for Prajna Yoga.

In addition to public classes and intensives, Linda enjoys working one-on-one with students in private settings. With a keen eye for alignment and broad understanding of yoga practices, Linda supports students progress step by step through structured self-practice.

Gisela Wilming

Prajna Yoga Teacher

I began to practice yoga 20 years ago. Since then it’s an ongoing journey of study of yoga and Buddha dharma, inquiry, curiosity and joy. I had the great privilege to study with and learn from many wonderful teacher nationally as well as internationally. Tias and Surya Little, Djuna Mascall, Carrie Owerko, Angela Farmer, Josh Summers and Adyashanti have made a huge impact on my life, my practice and teaching. During my last teacher training at Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe I met Linda. Since then I not only call her a friend but also my teacher for vedic chanting.

Being a student always is at the core of my practice and teaching. And so is curiosity about all “questions of life”, knowing that the question is sometimes more important than the answer. Everything I encounter in life informs somehow my practice and teaching. This could be a poem, a line out of a novel, a quote or something I see or hear on the streets or in the bus. Practice is life and life is practice. Body and mind are deeply interconnected.

In my classes and privates I love to explore movement and to step into an intimate conversation with the body. This includes yoga asana, somatic movement, exploration of active movement in full functional range as well as meditation and chanting. I encourage students to sense and feel into their structure in order to deepen the inner dialogue and support healing. For my understanding and experience healing doesn’t come from pushing and forcing but from compassion, listening and being mindful with ourselves.

For this retreat I feel deeply honored to teach alongside with my friend and teacher Linda Spackman. Together we will offer you our knowledge and experience of many many years of practice and teaching and living. We can’t wait to welcome and study with you.
