Summer DIEN in Vishvamitrasana
Summer DIEN

Saturday’s asana class will be a focus on backbending and heart opening.

Sunday’s class will be all about hip opening and heart opening.

This workshop offers you the possibility to develop or go deeper into your pranayama practice and build/deepen your asana practice.

Please come on an empty stomach (no food 4 hours before the workshop)!

1st half — Pranayama

Start your weekend off with a double dose of yoga and prepare for the next week!
We will begin with a guided contemplation on gratitude, forgiveness, and guidance. Then we will learn move through the kriyas, cleansing practices, designed to purify and cleanse the body and prepare it for the pranayama practice. We will then learn a couple different pranayamas, such as ujjayyi and sitali.

2nd half — Asana

Saturday: What is a backbend? It is actually a whole body bend. It is a front opening. It leaves you extremely vulnerable, yet to do one nicely requires strength and fearlessness. This class will focus the components of upward facing dog and what a backbend is really all about. We will move through an Ashtanga based sequence focusing on backbending and heart opening.

Sunday: Open your heart to open your hips and vice versa. It has been said that we store our own stress on our shoulders and we store others’ stress in our hips. If your hips are tight, then you might be needlessly holding onto someone else’s pain, hurt, anger, fear, worry or stress. There could a blockage, a combination of something physical, emotional and psychological. During this class, we will explore different hip opening postures, holding some poses for longer, going deeper into the sensations that you feel, exploring and observing how the body feels and reacts. How do you release and let go? How can you set boundaries for yourself when it comes to relating to others and their emotions? One way is by understanding your own body better. Move into the dark places, move into the fear and sadness and see what happens. What you find might surprise you.

The workshops are open to all level. Beginners very welcome! Modifications and variations will be offered.

Places are limited – please reserve well in advance.

Summer DIEN

Summer DIEN

Summer DIEN is a Senior Student of Paul Dallaghan. She was born in Vietnam and raised in Minnesota. She has lived in Japan, Brazil, the Middle East and Asia and speaks English, Japanese, Vietnamese and Portuguese. In her life before becoming a yoga teacher, she was a kindergarten EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher for three years. She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Minnesota and holds a Master’s in Education.

Summer DIENSummer completed her foundational teacher training in 2013 with Paul Dallaghan at Centered Yoga in Koh Samui, Thailand. She started doing yoga in Doha, Qatar in 2010 and began teaching informally in her apartment shortly thereafter. Summer worked at Samahita Retreat (home of Centered Yoga) as a yoga teacher and wellness advisor for two years from 2013-2015. She taught led ashtanga, restorative yoga, and guided meditation classes and also assisted in the Mysore room and on advanced teacher training courses and retreats. She continues to study extensively with her teachers Sri OP Tiwariji and Paul Dallaghan in the areas of pranayama and asana.

Summer is trained in the classical pranayama practices (kriyas and pranayama techniques) of the Khaivalyadham lineage and in the traditional ashtanga vinyasa system. She has a liberal, non-dogmatic approach to asana and believes in using the body in the most intelligent way possible. While non-traditional in some ways, she adheres to the general principles of the Ashtanga Vinyasa method. She advocates modifying the poses to suit the student’s current needs and abilities. She is a dedicated practitioner of pranayama, ashtanga, and Vipassana meditation. Summer is committed to the path of yoga and dedicates her life to fully supporting and uplifting others by passing on the ancient yogic practices of asana, pranayama, and meditation.

She is very excited to serve the yoga community in St. Gallen and share her knowledge and experience.
